Best Chipotle Orders for a Cut

Compare practical Chipotle bowls, salads, and add-ons by calories and protein, then build your exact order.

Chipotle is easy to keep under 600 calories until the extras start piling up. A salad or bowl with chicken, beans, fajita vegetables, salsa, and lettuce is the most reliable starting point. Chicken has the strongest protein-to-calorie ratio among the standard proteins. The tortilla, chips, guacamole, cheese, sour cream, and vinaigrette are where the total moves quickly.

Build your exact meal in the Chipotle nutrition calculator before you order.

The custom totals use the portions in Zolt's Chipotle calculator, reviewed August 19, 2026. The named High Protein-High Fiber Bowl comes from Chipotle's 2025 high-protein menu announcement. In-store scoops vary, so these are planning numbers rather than promises.

A filling order under 400 calories

Order:

  • Supergreens salad mix
  • Chicken
  • Black beans
  • Fajita vegetables
  • Fresh tomato salsa
  • Tomatillo-green chili salsa
  • Romaine lettuce

The total is about 390 calories and 42 grams of protein. Eight grams of that protein come from the beans, along with much of the bowl's fiber. The vegetables and two salsas make it a decent-sized meal without adding many calories.

Without beans, the estimate drops to roughly 260 calories. You also lose 8 grams of protein and much of the fiber, so the smaller number may leave you hungry sooner.

Rice still fits

A normal serving of white or brown rice brings the estimate to about 585 calories and 45 grams of protein.

White and brown rice are both listed at 210 calories in the current calculator, so choose the one you prefer. Some locations will honor a light-rice request, but "light" is not a standardized scoop. Build the full serving in the calculator and adjust the logged portion after you see what you received.

Where the calories pile up

AdditionCaloriesProteinWhat it changes
Burrito tortilla3208gTurns the same 585-calorie bowl into roughly a 905-calorie burrito
Chips5407gCan add more calories than the entire lean salad build
Guacamole2302gUseful when you value it; expensive when added automatically
Vinaigrette2201gEasy to miss because it arrives as a side
Cheese or sour cream1106g or 2gModerate individually; they stack quickly

Pick the extra you care about instead of adding all of them by habit. If the chips are the reason you are there, a salad plus shared chips may suit you better than a burrito loaded with guacamole and vinaigrette.

You may not need double chicken

A standard chicken serving is listed at 180 calories and 32 grams of protein. Steak is slightly lower in calories at 150, but provides 21 grams of protein. Carnitas is 210 calories with 23 grams.

Beans and one standard serving of chicken already put the lean salad build above 40 grams of protein. Double chicken is useful when you want a much larger protein serving, but it is not required for a high-protein meal.

Serving size is the catch. In a recent r/Chipotle discussion about high-protein bowls, customers described noticeably different scoops from one order to the next. The thread is anecdotal, but the logging lesson is practical: correct the portion when your scoop looks unusually large or small.

How three complete orders compare

The lean default

  • Salad base
  • Chicken and black beans
  • Fajita vegetables
  • Fresh tomato and green salsa
  • Lettuce
  • About 390 calories and 42g protein

The rice bowl

  • White or brown rice
  • Chicken and black beans
  • Fajita vegetables
  • Fresh tomato and green salsa
  • Lettuce
  • About 585 calories and 45g protein

The chips-first order

  • Lean salad build
  • Share one order of chips between two people
  • About 660 calories and 45g protein per person, assuming an even split

Sharing the chips preserves that part of the meal while making the portion visible in the estimate.

Check the meal against your actual target

Use the cutting calculator for a starting target, then judge the target against your actual trend. Adaptive TDEE is useful here because a formula cannot know your real expenditure from one questionnaire.

  1. Pick the bowl, burrito, or chips as the priority.
  2. Build the full order in the Chipotle calculator.
  3. Log what was served, including sides and drinks.
  4. Return to the normal plan at the next meal.

For unusual portions or missing menu items, use the process in our restaurant tracking guide.
