Raw to cooked beef weight calculator

Estimate ground beef weight after cooking, or convert a cooked portion back to raw weight using your measured batch.

USDA low-fat ground beef crumbles. Drained after cooking.

Yield = cooked weight ÷ raw weight × 100. You can edit the estimate.

These presets cover ground beef crumbles that were drained, not steaks or burgers. For undrained beef, steaks, or other preparations, use My batch. Discarded fat changes nutrition as well as weight; this tool does not calculate retained calories or fat.

How the calculation works

Estimated cooked weight = raw weight × cooking yield ÷ 100. Reverse it by dividing cooked weight by the yield fraction. The preparation preset supplies a starting estimate that you can edit.

My batch uses your measured weights: raw equivalent = cooked portion × raw batch ÷ cooked batch. Use the same edible food for all three weights.

A worked example

At a 67% yield, 500 g of raw ground beef becomes about 335 g cooked. A 100 g cooked portion corresponds to about 149 g raw by weight. That raw equivalent does not account for fat discarded during draining.

Common questions

Which preset fits 90/10 or 80/20 beef?

90/10 beef contains 10% fat, so choose Under 12%. 80/20 contains 20% fat, so choose 12–22%. These presets assume pan-browned, drained crumbles.

What if I keep the drippings?

Use My batch rather than the drained presets. Include only the food you will portion, and keep the same definition of the batch for every weight.

Can I calculate steak or burger weight?

Use My batch with your measured raw and cooked weights. The ground beef presets are not steak or burger yields.
