USDA breast yield, roasted. Use edible meat weights on both sides.

Yield = cooked weight ÷ raw weight × 100. You can edit the estimate.

Use edible chicken weights throughout. A bone-in package weight is not interchangeable with a boneless cooked portion. Weigh the batch without bones, sauces, or the pan.

How the calculation works

Estimated cooked weight = raw weight × cooking yield ÷ 100. Reverse it by dividing cooked weight by the yield fraction. The preparation preset supplies a starting estimate that you can edit.

My batch uses your measured weights: raw equivalent = cooked portion × raw batch ÷ cooked batch. Use the same edible food for all three weights.

Use edible chicken weights throughout. A bone-in package weight is not interchangeable with a boneless cooked portion. Weigh the batch without bones, sauces, or the pan.

A worked example

At a 72% yield, 500 g of raw chicken becomes about 360 g cooked. A 180 g cooked portion corresponds to about 250 g raw. Your own batch may yield a different amount.

Common questions

Should I log chicken raw or cooked?

Match the weighed state to the food entry. Use a raw entry for raw weight and a cooked entry for cooked weight. If you only have the other weight, this converter estimates its equivalent.

Does grilled chicken use the roasted preset?

The preset is specifically for baked or roasted chicken. Grilling can produce a different yield. Enter a measured yield or use My batch for grilled chicken.

Can I use a whole chicken?

Use My batch with edible meat weights before and after cooking. Do not compare a whole raw bird, including bones, with a boneless cooked portion.
